The second largest city in the country it is located in the Northern Greece. There is a pronounced influence of the east on the city culture and yet the city life is highly westernized.

Exceptional night life, great and cozy restaurants, high fashion people are all characteristics of this sophisticated city. One of the greatest attractions of the city is the Thessaloniki Film Festival that takes place during October- November and is one of the largest shows not only in Greece but also entire Europe.

The modern city was rebuilt in 1920 and now is full of commercial structures all over including ultra modern shopping centers. Main squares of the cities at Platia Elefferias and Platia Aristofelous are both located on waterfront. A standing monument is the white tower that was used as a prison in the ancient times.
